# 『밧세바』

성경에 몇 줄로만 남은 여인 밧세바를, 소년 다윗에서 왕국의 분열까지 기록과 기록 사이의 빈칸으로 다시 세운 이야기. 적힌 것이 다가 아니다.

[**Mother of King**](/ko/stories/series/mother-of-king/)은 왕을 낳고 키우고 세운 어머니들을 다시 읽는 연작입니다. 『밧세바』는 그 첫 권, 이스라엘 편입니다. 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바는 성경에 몇 줄로만 남아 있습니다. 이 소설은 그 몇 줄 사이에 무엇이 있었을지를 묻습니다. 시작은 노래 한 곡이었습니다. 모든 것을 잃은 왕을 노래한 콜드플레이의 「Viva la Vida」를 들으며 "저 왕은 누구일까"를 물은 데서, 솔로몬과 르호보암을 지나 그 어머니에게 닿았습니다.

## 줄거리

7호선 하행 열차, 저녁 일곱 시 사십 분. 지친 직장인이 휴대폰으로 드라마 「밧세바의 시대」를 틉니다. 화면 속에서 이야기는 베들레헴의 양치기 소년 다윗에서 시작합니다. 사울의 궁과 광야의 도피, 유다와 온 이스라엘의 왕이 되기까지가 1권입니다.

2권부터 4권은 밧세바의 이야기입니다. 길로 사람 아히도벨의 손녀이자 엘리암의 딸로 자라, 헷 사람 우리아와 혼인하고, 왕궁 옥상 아래의 그 오후를 지나, 왕의 여인이 됩니다. 아들들의 다툼과 압살롬의 반역, 할아버지 아히도벨의 선택을 지나 마침내 아들 솔로몬을 왕좌에 앉히기까지입니다. 5권은 솔로몬의 시대와 왕국이 둘로 갈라지는 데까지 갑니다.

권마다 끝에는 왕의 연대기를 쓰는 서기관이 나와, 들은 것 가운데 무엇을 적고 무엇을 빼는지 고릅니다. 에필로그에서 그 직장인은 성경 앱을 열어, 같은 사건이 한 책에는 있고 다른 책에는 없다는 것을 봅니다.

## 이 판에 대하여

- **원본.** 다시 쓴 판(재저작판)의 최종 원고(2026-08-11 수정본, 2026-09-08 조판본과 같은 내용)를 장별로 옮겼습니다. 1–5권 110장과 프롤로그·에필로그, 권마다의 "읽기 전에"와 등장인물 소개입니다. 한글 약 27만 자입니다.
- **다른 판본.** 같은 사건을 다른 관점과 형식으로 다시 읽은 2025년 7월의 판본 일곱 편을 아래 "다른 판본"에 함께 두었습니다. 원판 「밧세바」, 「그 날의 시선」, 시나리오 「The Day — Silent Coup」, 「다윗 왕가의 남자들」, 「아히도벨 책략록」, 「엘리암 회고록」, 해석 논증 「밧세바는 피해자가 아니다」입니다.
- **성경 인용.** 장 머리의 성경 표시는 장·절의 위치만 적었습니다. 프롤로그와 에필로그에 성경 구절 몇 절(전도서 1장 2–3절, 사무엘하 11장 1–2절, 역대상 20장 1절)을 그대로 인용했고, 인용 본문은 개역개정판(© 대한성서공회)입니다.
- **공개판에서 바꾼 것.** 에필로그에서 노래 가사 한 줄(영어 원문)을 인용하던 자리를 가사가 아닌 문장으로 바꾸었습니다. 권마다 끝에 오는 서기관 막간의 번호가 0, 1, 2, 3, 5로 4를 건너뛰고 있어, 마지막 막간을 "서기관 4"로 고쳤습니다.
- **허구.** 원본의 고지를 그대로 옮깁니다. "이 모든 이야기는 사실이 아닙니다." 성경에 기록된 사건의 결과는 바꾸지 않았고, 기록되지 않은 과정은 하나의 가능한 경로로 그렸습니다.
